Africa Launches 33 Instant Payment Systems as Liberia Sets 73-Day Record
Africa’s push to connect its 400 million financially excluded adults to real-time digital payments accelerated sharply in 2025, with five new national instant payment systems going live across the continent and one country, Liberia, deploying an entire national infrastructure in just 73 days, according to the AfricaNenda Foundation’s 2025 Annual Report released this month.

State of Inclusive Instant Payment Systems 2023 (SIIPS 2023) Report reveals continued growth in Africa's instant payment systems
AfricaNenda (www.AfricaNenda.org) has today released the second edition of the annual State of Inclusive Instant Payment Systems (SIIPS) in Africa report. Jointly produced with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the World Bank, the report highlights sustained growth in both the supply of instant payment systems and demand for their functionality.
