The State Of Inclusive Instant Payment Systems In Africa

The first AfricaNenda SIIPS report launched in October 2022 to inform public and private sector stakeholders about developments related to instant payment systems (IPS) in Africa, including the inclusivity assessment of such systems, consumer insights, and country specific case studies.

SIIPS reports provide data and analysis about the supply and demand for instant retail payment systems and advocate for further development by highlighting:

  • Existing and planned instant payment systems, including their coverage, providers, use cases, and channels.

  • End-user demand patterns and barriers to adoption and usage.

  • The value propositions, cost drivers, regulatory hurdles, and cybersecurity threats that inhibit scale.

  • The role of collaboration and partnerships between stakeholders.

SIIPS is an annual report created in partnership with the World Bank and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
