Archie Hesse

CEO, Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS)

Archie Hesse is the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS) Limited – a wholly owned subsidiary of the Bank of Ghana, mandated to transform Ghana into an electronic payments society.

He led the GhIPSS team to deliver a native solution for Instant Interbank Transfers in 2015. The GhIPSS Instant Pay (GIP) as it was christened is an instant interbank account-to-account transfer product which credits beneficiary accounts in seconds. This Platform has since been leveraged to provide Ghana’s Mobile Money Interoperability service (2018), the Universal GhQR code (2020), the Proxy Pay service (2020), Request to Pay Service among other real time services.

Prior to joining GhIPSS, he worked with the BMW Group in Munich, UK, South Africa, and the US for over a decade in various IT transformation initiatives: in the Logistics, Manufacturing, Sales, and Marketing divisions. He supported the build of BMW and Rolls Royce motor cars and the Mini.

Archie Hesse spent nine years as a professional educator in UK before he joined the BMW Group. He has a degree in Physics and Computing, a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) Finance. He also holds a professional qualification in Project Management and IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL).
