Djeinaba Kane

Advocacy and Partnerships Lead

Ms. Kane is the Advocacy and Partnership Lead at AfricaNenda, an independent African-led organization created to accelerate the growth of instant and inclusive payment systems (IIPS) that will benefit all Africans, including the poorest and currently financially excluded.

With extensive experience in both public and private organizations, Djeinaba focuses on advocating for efficient and affordable payment platforms, developing and managing strategic partnerships and conducting/supporting capacity building trainings. She is currently leading AfricaNenda's Advocacy programme on Gender Intentionality in IIPS.

Prior to joining AfricaNenda in 2022, Ms. Kane worked 6 years at the African Union Commission within the Department of Economic Affairs (current Department of Economic Development, Trade, Tourism, Industry and Mining- ETTIM). She worked on advocating different programmes of the Department with AU Member States and partners. On behalf of DEA, Djeinaba led the contribution to the Digital Financial Services (DFS) Strategy within the overall Digital Transformation Strategy for Africa (2020- 2030) led by the African Union Commission. She was the focal point and lead on the Digital Financial Services Implementation programme under the Economic Policy and Research Division and was working with different development partners such as the African Development Bank (AfDB), African Export- Import Bank (Afreximbank), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa Digital Centre for Excellence (UNECA), Smart Africa and the World Bank.

Ms. Kane has over 10 years of Public- Private experience within the Financial Services sector in North America as well as in the Public Policy and Administration sector in Africa. She completed her studies at the City University of New York- Baruch (BA), the School of Continuing Studies of the University of Toronto and King’s College London (MA).
